Over the Summer I am planning on traveling abroad to Peru for Volunteer Work

1. Do colleges like Study Abroad/ Volunteer Work on college resumes? How much does it help?

2. Specifically what good colleges favor work experience and travel abroad?

  1. Colleges like to see any type of volunteer or study abroad work on your resume. It shows that you are versatile, have experience working with others and that you have the initiative to try new things. It's not a make or break deal if you don't have any other experience, but every little thing counts.

    Really, all colleges favor work and study abroad experience.

  2. Volunteer work, specially volunteer work in developing countries looks great on resumes - not just college resumes, but career resumes as well. Admissions offices put a lot of weight on volunteer work, study abroad experience and extracurriculars since this shows a lot of character and maturity, which are great traits to have. Ivy leagues tend to look at these experiences very closely since most of their applicants have great grades and scores. This is the one thing that may differentiate one A-student from another A-student.

    If you are planning to volunteer abroad, do it! It's a great experience, it will not only help you with college, but it will be a great experience for you and something you will remember for the rest of your life.
