im 18 and i got dismissed from community college it was my first my first year inn college and it was real tough. i wrote this letter of appeal do you think they will let me back in?

Dear College Committee on Admission and Academic Standing:

My name is Vladimir ******. My major is Business Administration. I was dismissed the spring 2008 semester and I believe it was because I was not fully prepared for my first college experience. I wasn’t able to keep up with my work properly and efficiently. I know I haven’t tried to the best of my abilities. The little time I had on my hands I didn’t use it to seek the extra help I needed. I feel like I have what it takes to become a better student. Being dismissed has let a lot of people down especially myself.

I would like to be able to get my associates from KBCC and transfer to a 4-year school. That way I can be able to get my masters in business and quite possibly so I will be able to own a business or work for a large corporation. I also plan on getting a bachelors degree in social work. I feel I can also do well in that area because I’m already participating in a non-profit organization that provides counseling to individuals, families, and groups with problems such as substance abuse and family violence.

My first step to improve my grades will be to set aside a structured, consistent block of time on a daily basis to be used for studying and doing homework. If I find myself struggling I will use the time I’ve made to review the material also I will ask my professor if I am having trouble understanding a certain concept or idea so I don’t not fall behind. Another step I’ve already taken is to ask what I can do for extra credit or if there were any missed projects I can hand in. I am currently working with some of my professors to improve grades for classes I was not able to pass to get a better grade for the course. I am determined to focus more on my academic career.

Sincerely,

Vladimir ******

  1. Community Colleges are generally pretty easy-going about this stuff. Your letter is great in that it does not blame them and that you are taking responsibility.  I think that they will let you move forward.  My only problem is once on academic suspension, they sometimes require you to be on that suspension for a certain amount of time and you might not have had enough time yet.  The letter works though and I think you should send it.

    Good Luck man
