there are two boxes in a college form that says:

1. I am a nonimmigrant alien as defined by law. [nonimmigrant alins have been admitted to the united states temporarily and include, but are not limited to, foreign students (persons holding f visas) and exchange visitors(persons holding j visas).]

2. i am NOT a nonimmigrant alien. [u.s. citizens, permanent residents, or aliens without lawful immigration status, among others, should check this box.]

i dont know which one should i check, can you explain what does each one mean?

    1. If you have a temporary legal stay in the US. You will eventually have to leave.

    2. You are either a US citizen or you are a legal resident with a green card.

  3. Are you or are you not a citizen?

  4. # 2 is the option you check if you jumped the fence from Mexico or swam the Ocean from Cuba or otherwise hid in the back or a vehicle or any other illegal way to get to the US.

#1 is the option you check if you came here with "legit" legal papers and went through proper channels.
