  1. depends on whether the books are new or used. also just because you only have three classes doesn't mean you'll only need three books. many professors require their students to have several different books for a single semester class so check their supply list and see how what they require.

  2. Your books should cost you around 400 dollars

  3. Expensive they can normally cost up to $200

  4. Around $100 each. Math and Science books tend to be hard cover which means they can cost as much as $50 more than average, depending on size and whatever c**p the school adds (work books, cd's, et cetera) to jack up the price. Even used books are expensive, and you have to get there the first day the bookstore opens to find them.

My best advice for you would be to go to your bookstore, write down the name, edition and authors of each book. Then go to Amazon and buy them for a fraction of the cost.

  5. Books run between 50-100 dollars a piece.

GO to half.com (ebay) for cheap used books.

  6. Typically, when I went to school (I graduated last year, so I'm not that old) I would go to class first and even see if the professor used the text on a regular basis. If they don't follow the text, there is no real reason to get the book. Especially if there are powerpoint slide with notes, etc. But, go to half.com to get screamin' deals like the other guy said. And if you have a friend in the class, share.

  7. It all depends on the books your professor chooses to use.

Your English books-- if they're novels and not textbooks-- can even be as cheap as $.50 on Amazon if they're classics and you get them really used. Math textbooks, especially because new editions come out every few months, can be around $90. You're not taking science classes, so I would say that one quarter will easily be under $200 if you get the books used and online.

  8. RENTING IS ALSO AN OPTION.  CAMPUSBOOKRENTALS.COM IS THE SITE I USE AND IF THE BOOK IS EXPENSIVE, ITS WORTH IT TO JUST RENT INSTEAD OF BUYING.

  9. Anywhere from 10 - 100+ each, depending on the subject. If you buy them used, they're cheaper. Your local college bookstore should have a used section, hopefully.

  10. I bought mine at amazon.com && they were all much cheaper than my school bookstore && what I was able to find at other websites.

  11. It depends on the book requirements for your courses, the number of courses you're taking, whether you buy new or used, and where you buy your textbooks.

Book requirements - Professors try to keep their book lists tame, but you can still expect $50-$200 worth of books per class. Not all books are required so check with the professor or consult the syllabus. For optional reading, don't buy it or borrow it/photocopy from a classmate. Often times you can save money by using older editions than what's listed by the professor - they usually have to list the book edition the school's bookstore will be providing, which is usually the most recent (for new books and some used) or within the last 1-2 editions (for used). Careful using old anthologies though - they may have rotated something out of the text something you need to read for class!

Number of courses - Obviously the more classes you take, the more books you'll need. Science and math books often cost more because they're more likely to be thick, hardback textbooks. Often times English books will be paperback. Both are frequently updated by publishers so they can make money so new books (even paperback) are expensive.

Buying new or used - Both tend to be readily available online. A great place to check for good prices on new books is http://www.amazon.com/, which is also a great place to check for used (though shipping fees are separate on used). Other good sites are http://www.half.ebay.com/ or sites like http://www.campusbooks.com/ that specialize in college textbooks. Try googling 'college textbooks.' Careful with online buying though - you may need the book sooner rather than later and shipping each book separately can add up! You may even try a local book store - they often sell used textbooks to cater to the nearby schools.

Where you buy - Buying from your bookstore often means a student discount (don't forget to take that into account when comparing prices). You may be required to buy things like lab manuals or course packets from the bookstore because they're made by your professors - they're not usually too expensive. Another perk from buying at your bookstore is that selling books back to the bookstore is convenient and they'll usually accept books back for cash at the end of the term (though they limit the number they'll take back and the cash value is reduced if they're switching to a new edition). Online is usually cheaper, but you have to factor in shipping time and expenses.

All in all, like others said... expect to spend a few hundred each term on books (I was an English major and averaged about $250 per term). Price compare, but don't obsess over a few dollars here and there.

    Good luck!

  12. it really depends on the books you need. Cost varys from 50$ a book to 250$ a book.
