Hello everyone. I have a gifted 2 year old daughter. I am going to start school after a 2 year break of bring a stay at home mom. I would like to hear opinions or stories from parents/parent who have had their child experience a college campus preschool vs. a private christian preschool. I wanted to place my daughter at the college campus that I attend, this way I am close to her durring my hours away. However, my husband feels a privated christian preschool will benefit her much better, giving that she is gifted and they may have additional resources for her for an additional fee. Has anyone ever had a similar dilema? What would you prefer or do?

  1. My daughter's last day at the college campus preschool she has attended for 2.5 years is next Friday.  I have not looked back ONCE since making the decision to placing her at this location.  Like the previous post implies - college preschools are often used as an experiential practical 'lab' class for students studying to be early childhood educators.  I've always thought this was great!  There was often several students in her class on any given series of weeks (long enough for the children to get to know the students)... developing the kids social skills around grown ups, as well as other kids.  This was also great for the ratio, giving my daughter 3:1 and 2:1 attention - rather than the 8:1 designated for her age group.  This school also has a Police Foundations program, with a graduation requirement for those students to spend time in the preschool room.  This taught the children to trust Police officers, make them seem approachable, friendly, rather than intimidating and out of reach.  I have often come in to find each child with an individual playing/interracting with them.  You can't beat a 1:1 ratio!!  The schools are the ones that teach the principles of child care; access and apply the latest techniques and philosophies, and are often on the contributing end of new regulations/legislation.  They help make the rules, they teach the rules... and therefore they live by the rules.  In looking for afternoon care for my daughter engtering SK... I only now realized HOW GOOD I actually had it; as most other centres only managed to pale in comparisson!

If I had 6 more kids... they'd be college bound as soon as they could walk!  I don't believe you need to create a fortress of religeon around a child to make them good, and kind, and compassionnate, and caring.  Teaching by example and reinforcing the messages through your choice of religeous activities should be enough to deliver the message.  Exposing them to people of different faiths, ethnic backgrounds and cultures will create a well rounded child.  Good luck!
