  1. Colleges do typically have tryouts, but it all depends on the school.  Good schools like Oklahoma State will NOT have tryouts, instead they will scout players like Rickie Fowler and then "invite" them.  Basically, unless you are intending to play on a competative DI team, there are tryouts.  Before going to the school, talk to the coach, fill out a recruitment form, anything to get him to know your name.  Also, if you can, try to purposely run into him practicing (ie... know that he will be at _______ golf course at 4:30, be there practicing at that time).  Coaches LOVE practice, so showing you care enough to try will leave him with a good impression.

  2. Depends on the school.  Big Division One schools have already recruited their golfers and given them scholarships.  There will be 18 or 36 hole tryout, but no matter what you shoot you probably won't get picked.  At smaller D2 and D3 schools you have a much better chance of getting on the team through a qualifying round.

  3. Yea it's called walking on. Go find out who the head golf coach is and talk to him about it. Golf has 2 times in college to play it. They have fall golf and spring golf.
