I live in Arizona, and i am planing on going to a community college in California for two years and then switching to a UC college. I want to know what a really great community college is in California. I know of one called Santa Monica college, but i wanted to know if there are any others that are really great for transferring to a great school like UCLA or Berkeley.

  1. Your best bet is to contact UCLA or UC Berkeley and find out what colleges they have guaranteed transfer programs with.  Call their undergrad addmissions office and ask them that question.  Also consider other UC's.

    The truth about JC's:

It doesnt matter really where you go to a JC at unless (read above) there is some guaranteed transfer program.  JC's are for quick transfers to Univ.'s.   Don't be a 7 yr JC student either.  Show the UC transfer officer your high school and proposed classes you are planning to take and do the bare minimum to transfer.  Get out of a JC asap.  Also choose a major you can get a job with after.  And majoring in Art hsitory, dance, psychology, music or sociology, eng. lit. are not good majors.

    Good Luck.

Btw do what I say above,t his si what I did.  Get out of the JC system fast!

  2. Wow, this is tough considering I really wouldn't want to go to a Californian Community College. I'd stay at GCC or go to ASU, NAU, or UA. Gateway? Arizona Western College?

At GCC you can get credits and transfer to university but I only say this cause I actually like GCC.

It's all up to you. Try going there a semester...

  3. your best bet for transferring into a top flight school is to excel first at a less prestigious but very good school.  try getting into one of the other UC (though very challenging) or the second tier state schools and work your butt of to get grades and build a resume.  find some really good connections and network with alums at berkely and UCLA (ie work for state politicans that went their volunteer they will write good letters and you get job experience out of it)

i did this in virginia and am just transferring into UVa which is ranked equally to berkely
