  1. The only thing they have against you in arguing about leaving home is higher tuition cost for out of state students, but even that isn't a huge deal.

you'll probably get a teacher this year that is really energetic about going to college and whatnot. make that teacher the key to convincing your parents. teachers somehow have a way to make parents realize that leaving is your best option.

show tenacity about going away for college and get as many people as you can to show that leaving is better (both socially and academically)

  2. Are there no good colleges in New Jersey? Come on, it's not the name of the college that puts you above none college people. It's the requirement of making you think above the average person. Find a college there and you will work just as hard and going to a famous University. Good luck, Marty

  3. It is much easier to deal with family drama then to come up with the money to pay for room and board. I would suggest to just try to stay at home for a while, when you start college you can spend all of your time there and just go home to sleep then you will not have to see them.

  4. Haha, I can so relate to that (I'm going to school on the opposite coast from my family).  If you can find a good school that gives you a substantial scholarship (or even a free ride) then I don't think your parents can win, since you'll be saving money or independent. However, as long as they're the ones paying tuition, they're going to have some control/say over where you go.  You could still go to school in NJ and live on campus (explain that commuter students miss out on a lot of campus activity/life that's rather central to the college experience), that way you would only have to go home for holidays and maybe weekends.  Good luck!
