Okay, so I am interested in applying to Yale, but I don’t know what my chances of getting in are. I was hoping that some of you helpful people could give me your opinion. Sooo, here are my credentials:

I have a 3.98 (unweighted) and a 34 on the ACT (10 on the writing section). I have been in 2-3 extracurricular activities each year, and in 10th, 11th, and 12th grade I was/will be in some sort of leadership position, and last year I went to state with my school’s Math Team. I’m also in NHS and SFH (French honor society). I have volunteered since 10th grade, at a local elementary school as a tutor in 10th, and a hospital volunteer in 11th and 12th. As for classes, I have so far taken 4 AP classes (passed all the tests), and plan on taking 5 senior year (one will be an independent study). The rest of my classes have always been the highest offered (besides electives). Also, I took a CIS (college in the schools, equivalent or better than AP) class for two years. Lastly, I will be a first generation college student in my family.

Also, I am interested in my state university. How hard do you think it would be for me to get a hefty scholarship?

Thank you for your opinions and any other advice you give!

  1. Some good recommendations can help.

  2. You're going to have absolutely no problems getting in.  You could easily get a full scholarship.

  3. This is a hard question to answer...b/c it isnt as straight foreward with the ivy league schools! You have a good ACT, but your GPA is a little low...they will most likely be looking for it to be up over a 4.0 closer to a 4.5. I know a couple people who have gone there...it is definately not easy. It is hard to say. A state school would probably be easier to get into..and you should have no problem. You will also most likely get a better size scholarship for a state school. If you want to work on getting other scholarships check out fastweb.com or scholarships.com! They are both good sites!

If Yale is your dream...go for it!!! Reach for your dreams! And remember just because you apply doesnt mean you have to go there! Apply for a few different schools, and then make your decision from there. Figure out what school will give you more money! What is right for you will eventually come to you...dont worry about it! And nothing is stopping you from applying to where ever you want to apply to...you will never know if you can get in unless you try!!!

Good Luck! I hope this helps!
