I would like to go to college in the Australia for my 4 year degree. I cant find an estimate of the costs including housting, college. I am cool with going to a community college if it is cheaper for 2 years. I would like to be in a big city that I dont need a car. Otherwise I would have to figure out how to get my car there and get a lisense there and everything. Do you have any numbers for me? Thanks!

I have 10,000 us $ saved for college already.

  2. Hi, Ive just completed my 4th year in Australia, been living here for about 10 years. We don't really have things like community college.. I suppose the equivalent here would be TAFE (to check out an Aussie TAFE go to www.tafe.qld.gov.au). for an estimate of university costs you can check out individual university sites, for example: www.qut.edu.au and then search for your course (i think international student fees are at 9grand per year). QUT is in Brisbane. other big ones in Brisbane are UQ (university of queensland). Brisbane is capital of Queensland and has about 2.2 million people or something. Melbourne is a big city here (3million pop), big uni's there are University of Melbourne, Monash, RMIT. Sydney is another big city, the University called McQuarie is a good one. The biggest cities are always going to be the capitals of each territory (Remembering that there are only 22 million people spread around Australia in total). .

Rent here is dependent on where you are going to be living.

At the moment rent is going up but you can get share accomodation for about $140 per week in most areas (around Brisbane, which is in Queensland). If you want to check rental prices out, go to www.realestate.com.au (pick "rent" and click on the area of australia you want to check out, e.g. "queensland" Then you can select what suburbs you want to look at through a drop down menu). The university websites will tell you what suburb the Uni's are in and then you can search the surrounding suburbs for cost (find surrounding suburbs through e.g. google maps). Sydney is most expensive to live in. Melbourne is apparently the nicest to live in, its certainely heaps better on public transport than brisbane.

    Hope that helps :)

P.s. assuming you have a UK licence, thats valid over here, i.e. you can use it without taking a test or anything, just be aware of the driving on the left side of the road thing.
