Question:

College interview - ECE - help!?

I did it! After comparing the pros and cons and considering this for a *long* time, I finally applied to college to go back to school to earn my Early Childhood Education (ECE) and Montessori training diploma! I'm hoping to teach in a Montessori 3-6 classroom when I'm done.

I'm really excited and nervous at the same time (I haven't been to school in almost 7 years). But, the thing I'm most nervous about right now is the entrance interview!

My question is for all you ECE folks out there.

What sort of questions will they ask me? Are these things usually just a formality or is it going to be a really big deal? I had to write an entrance essay already and have three reference checks, and now I'm moving onto the third and last portion of the process.

Any help would be great! I'm really nervous about this. I have a friend getting her ECE right now but her school didn't do an entrance interview. Thanks!

  1. They may want to make sure that you are a good fit for the Early Childhood field. Early childhood teachers don't "teach". They present activities and experiences that will help children to develop the skills they need to be good little people and good little students. If you sound like you want to stand in front of the room and lecture then ECE is not for you. If you really like to sit with young children and have them invite you to join their play, then ECE is right for you

  2. i am a fellow ECE and my school didnt make me do an interview either..how nerve racking...but im sure you will do well.

they will probably ask you what you plan to do with the diploma once you have obtained it,

talk about your goals working in the field, what you want to achieve,

they may ask you if you have any experience previous to this...so if you do have any childcare experience talk about what you did (weather it was program planning, or taking care of the children)

other than that all i can say is good luck, all they are doing is making sure they are getting students into the program that really want to be there and who will bring something wonderful to the field, which im sure you will!

    best of luck!

  3. wow must be a really good school just remember why you choose this field and if your heart is really in it  and if they ask you why you enjoy working with young children? the answer is not i like to teach  its i like to see the children grow and develop
