Question:

College major...a big decision? ?

My goal is to become a judge, however, my friends believes that I am foolish because I want to major in business administration rather than political science. I told her that I wanted to major in business because of the many jobs available, and that simply just because you major in business administration, does not mean that you have to be a CEO. I believe the skills acquired help a lot with communication, and oral skills, as well as critical thinking. Would it be more beneficial to major in political science rather than business administration.

  1. You're right.. I'm on the Business track and I want to be a Judge..  Business admin is a great major.. even more so  if you want to change what you want to do.

don't listen to the people who try to discourage you!

  2. Many business administration majors eventually go into politics or law. Your friend is right, however, in that majoring in business administration will not automatically make you rich. It will build communication and leadership skills. On the other hand, political science would teach you more about government, knowledge that is essential if you want to enter the legal system.

In the end, it depends on what type of learner you are. If you are willing to make the effort the learn more about the legal process yourself, then take business administration. If you'd prefer to spend your 4 years of college learning about what will be directly applicable to your dream career, take political science.

I found that www.pathaspire.com has a lot of good information about college majors and related things. Try looking at that for more information!

  3. "Your friend is right, just because you have a degree in business administration doesn't mean you're going to be rich right away if at all. If you want to become a judge go into law or political science. Your not following the right path by picking that career if you really want to be a judge."

    Completely disregard this. /\ /\ /\

You're making a good choice here. First, the most important thing is to choose a major that you will enjoy, despite what others think about it. Second, law schools get flooded, every year, with PoliSci, History, English, Psychology, and Philosophy majors. They love, love, love to see Business, Biology, Chemistry, Sociology, Economics, etc... majors. As long as you have good grades and a great LSAT score being a less seen major only helps your chances.

Also, you don't just "go into law" (that statement shows the first poster has no idea what she's talking about). You get a BA then you attempt gaining acceptance to law school.

  4. I think you are making some very wise decisions here. Keep in mind that a higher level judge (to which I'm sure you aspire) almost demands a law degree. Before that, however, I'd encourage your thoughts on business for the reasons you state. That's my best answer.

  5. Your friend is right, just because you have a degree in buisness administration doesn't mean you're going to be rich right away if at all. If you want to become a judge go into law or political science. Your not following the right path by picking that career if you really want to be a judge.
