I am currently a junior in high school and up until the end of my sophomore year I was pretty much sure that I wanted to major in creative writing because that is something I have always had a passion for. But now it's like my mind is very unsure. So I was wondering if I could have some help with that.

I like writing and helping people. I was told that I was good at both and I was wondering what kind of minors and majors are in thouse areas. You would be a great help. Please and thanks

  1. Journalism or something related to it sounds in your area. You have to write in a persuasive, specific way, and your information helps many readers. =)

  2. From the way you talk about creative writing, I say you should go for it. Majors and minors are not permanent; you may go to college and be undecided, so try out a few classes before you declare your major. If you enjoy writing, obviously, look into English. There are literature classes that you might like (ex: Comparative Literature).

If you are sure about a certain major, be sure to look into a University's list of majors. Be sure that the university has the major listed.

In terms of helping people, I think you would be interested in Sociology. Sociology is more of a social science but there is still much writing involved.

    I hope this helped!

  3. English!

  4. there is no major called creative writing.. you'd have to go into journalism.. english or teaching..

  5. The above responses are helpful. I also add that communications or political science, paired with a minor in urban development, community health, etc, will equip you well for a career in nonprofits, or as a lobbyist.

  6. Chemical Engineering. I just graduated with my B.S. in ChemE and it was great. Engineering period is a great field because there will literally always be a need for them and the money is beyond fantastic. My college internship was with Dow Chemical and I was paid for my work and research. 4,900/month as just an intern and now I have a job with them starting salary is 92K/yr avg. starting income for Chemical Engineers are around 76K-89K/yr avg.
