College of West Anglia Selling Stakes: Jimmy Elder to battle hard for maiden victory
The digit of four is perhaps the unluckiest one for the legendary trainer Richard Hannon’s bay colt, Jimmy Elder, as he has finished 4th for at least five times in his 6-race career. But now, the young and zealous runner will fight hard to break his maiden in the high-stakes race of the College of West Anglia Selling Stakes that is going to be held at Newmarket racecourse on Friday, August 10.
On June 30, 2012, the two-year-old novice runner grabbed 4th spot in the British Stallion Studs Supporting British Racing E B F Maiden Stakes on the good to firm track of Lingfield. He will face the similar sort of race conditions today, but he is not likely to repeat the pathetic performance of the past time.
Over 7 furlongs, the son of Invincible Spirit out of Hijab will run alongside eight rivals who do not seem to be in a position to challenge the colt.
Jimmy Elder started his career from Goodwood on May 5, 2012. That was the Betfred Goals Galore EBF Maiden Stakes over 5 furlongs. Despite being the hot favourite candidate, he could not do well and finished 4th.
Like always, the young colt is going to run under a different jockey named as Ryan Moore with a view to break the jinx.
It is predicted that Jimmy Elder will be able to deliver an out of the box performance in order to thrive. Now, it is up to his luck how it smiles on him.
Northern Harbour also looks to be strong enough. The J. S. Moore trained and owned bay colt also grabbed three consecutive 4th positions from June 18 to July 18, 2012.
In his last outing at Yarmouth on July 30, the son of Ad Valorem out of Cutting Reef finished 5th against 8 rivals. That was the Visitengland.com Maiden Auction Stakes.
Thus, he will run well but he cannot be able to surpass Jimmy Elder. By and large, a rip-roaring clash is lying ahead. It will be greatly exciting to see Hannon’s pupil to bag his maiden success. Good luck to him.
