College question and I need good answers?

My university has college entrence exams like the COMPASS, however I have taken the SAT because my counselor was stressing me over and over to take it and I pretty much blew it off, got a bad score, but got good scores on the compass. So when I graduate and want to go to another university would I get rejected because of the exam scores? Even if I have a 3.8 GPA and 100%pass rate, with no classes dropped in my record?

  1. The SAT is typically an entrance qualifier.  If you already have classes under your belt, a college is less likely to rule you out just because you're missing a test score.  If you can go in with a 3.8 (they really don't care about the dropped classes, as long as you didn't have to fail and retake) you should be fine, but be ready for them to pick your transcript apart.  Typically, your credits will transfer in at a 3/5 ratio, either because the class you took doesn't correspond with one they offer, of their requirements are different, or... etc, etc, etc.  If you already know where you want to go, communicate your concerns to them BEFORE you try and transfer, and see what their counselors suggest.  That's why I am finishing my A.A., even though I have an A.A.S., because most schools accept a completed degree as a whole unit, rather than trying to disqualify certain classes.

Act as early as possible, be up front, and keep those grades up.  And by the by, a few extracurriculars never hurt, either...

  2. Retake the SAT and/or the ACT, those are the two important tests, you need a 'good' score. Those get you into college.

The COMPASS is for placing you in the appropriate classes, not for getting you into college. It really doesn't matter how you do on the COMPASS unless it puts you in classes that are too easy, but then again if you do too well you may be put into classes that you aren't ready for...

Keep your GPA up, make sure you play sports, holding a job looks good, as does extracurricular, volunteer, and club activities. Colleges want well rounded people, that have experiences, are mature, and responsibilities.
