okay so im gonna be a senior in HS and ive began to look at scholarships and things like that.

my question is this- is a scholarship money that you can use anywhere? or for example if i go to a community college but i win more than my tuition there, is the rest of the winning money able to be used at another school?

and also am i able to apply for scholarships at any time? every year?

(i dont mean like with deadlines, but can i apply for them every new term?)

  1. Each scholarship and grant has it's own rules on how it can be used, so I don't think you can find a single answer.

Typically I'd say that the money is for any single school and only for what the school is charging you. They are sometimes renewable and most are reapplyable.

    Hope that helps.

  2. Well, let's say that you are awarded a scholarship in the amount of $2000 for two semesters. Let's also say that you applied for financial aid as well and received pell grants--which do not have to be paid back. If your tuition for one semester winds up being less than the amount of financial aid/scholarships you were awarded for that semester, then you will receive a check for the remainder of the money to do what you want to with.

So, if you received enough financial aid to pay for your school, then you would receive half of your scholarship money in the mail (only half because they split the scholarship in half to accommodate for each semester). Leaving you with $1000 in your pocket, going by the example I proposed above.

And yes, you can apply for scholarships once every year, usually in early springtime/late winter. Usually every year you will qualify for different scholarships that you didn't qualify for the year before/ vice versa.

    Hope this helps!
