  1. I guess it would depend on where you plan on going (or go) to college. I worry about being able to swim at Penn State. I have been swimming for 8 years, and am decently fast, but I don't know if I'd be good enough for the program up there.

If your school has an open team, then go for it. Keep taking lessons, and when the season starts, sign up and start with the practices by telling the coach you're new to it.

  2. you should. you need to know how to swim in genral to be on a swim team but as far as the strokes (butterfly, back, freestyle, breast) they should teach you that in Practices.

  3. If you're taking lessons and are able to meet their requirements then no doubt you'd make it. I'm sure you'd improve a lot by the time you're in college. If you like swimming then continue. Swimming is a great sport and as long as you have the guts to compete and continue with your lessons you'll get in. Do not get discouraged. You'll make it! I've got a motto: "if you really want it, you'll get it" So if you are determined to get into the college swim team, you'll definately get in. You just have to go through a lot of training. Swimming is a very competitive sport, and it is very tiring, but if you're highly motivated and know that you can do it and aren't afraid of the hard training sessions you will most definately go through then do it!

All the very best to you, I do hope you get in, just keep taking swimming lessons and maybe join a team? So that you're in a more competitive enviroment to build up stamina and speed?

    Good luck!

  4. What college are you talking about?  It is different for different colleges.  For Div I schools in order to be on the varsity swim team you really have to have junior national swim cuts.  For club swim you need to be able to keep up with the practices.

If you are just starting to learn how to swim and you are looking at a large DI college then you've got a little while to go depending on how old you are.  Keep up your swim lessons and then look into swimming on a year round team to improve your fittness and endurance.  Good luck to you!
