  1. Key here is make sure you have the right edition.  Double check that.  For peace of mind, run it by the prof. for his/her ok.

  2. Just ask your professor to see if it's okay.  Best way of communication to your new prof is probably e-mail.  Just explain your situation and he will understand.  My prof let me do this for a course i took last semester.

Or you should buy the textbook from school and then flip through the books to see what pages are different and then scan those pages that are not in the old book so you'll never be missing any content.  It is possible to be off on a couple of pages.then you will return the new book that probably cost 200 bucks and you won't be missing any content and you don't have to tell your professor :D

Take advantage of your work or schools printers it's there for your use.

  3. For the most part you will be fine. When a new addition come out that usually means new questions and that they add recently discovered info. My suggestions is to look up the new book on line and see what they advertise as new. If its stuff that you dont need for class then dont worry. Other wise I suggest finding someone in class that will lend you their book or the library when you get assignments that are not covered in your version.

  4. You should be good. The changes are usually very minor (unless its a Computer Science book)

  5. As long as it is the correct edition, you should be fine. He may have a reprint. If you are still concerned, compare the Tables of Contents and read the author's introduction. The author will usually describe the changes that have been made.
