  1. I go to community college along with high school. I much prefer college than high school. My first pro is that there are many more diverse course you can take rather than just English 1, English 2, etc for example. I love languages so I have a much greater selection at colleges rather than my high school that just offers Japanese, French, and Spanish.

I also like that the people who are not committed usually drop after the first week thus you are not stuck in classes with people who just bs school. I always felt that since elementary school and even in high school, school is basically babysitting you. In college, it is truly what you make it  and you can learn, slack, party, and pretty much do what you want as you're paying for it (or perhaps your parents or a scholarship).

Only negatives is that you do have to study and do homework. All school you can pretty much drift by without doing much and get an A or B even in AP classes (I coasted in European history AP, got an A, and AP comp, got a B).

Some teachers do take attendance and factor it into your grade. My Korean teacher made attendance 15% of your grade along with homework 15%, participation 15%, tests/exams/quizzes 25%, and Final exam 30%. All depends on the teacher but find out how they grade you and plan accordingly.

College is better than high school. I cannot comment on dorms as I went to community college.

I wish you luck in your college search or if you're going to college pretty soon. Either way, don't forget to study.

  2. Class of 2010

I'm still in high school, but I'm looking forward to college being way better.

  3. College - there's way more freedom in everything, including but not limited to how you spend your weekends, who you hang out with, what subjects you develop interest in, what political party/activities you participate in, what you write your paper on, what you choose to study and how much, etc.  The people are slightly better - I mean, you can find a great crowd to run with and you'll become closer than you ever did with your high school friends (your high school friends are those people you see 10 years after grad when you run into them at the wal-mart. Your college friends are the ones who stand up with you at your wedding.)  Some of the people in college still have the college mindset though- looking down on people for trying something new and actually enjoying themselves no matter how different it might be, spending all their time drinking and going to parties and completely neglecting their education (not that it's not okay to do that occasionally on weekends, holidays, etc. but if you're using all of your free time for that, you won't be in college very long. I guarantee it.)

Our dorm room was usually a mix of posters, Christmas or outdoor lights, postcards from friends and family, pictures of friends and whatever free stuff they were giving out that interested us.
