I am going to be a junior in HS this year. I am extremely dedicated and progressing martial artist in karate. Just like someone from a football or soccer team, or any other sport almost, can get noticed and apply to play on college teams, are there any really good ones for martial artists? I mean serious ones for college athletes. Maybe one I can contact and send a video or fill out a questionairre when I'm ready? Thanks so much and God bless!

  1. many colleges have martial arts teams. but most of them are not for college credit or sanctioned by the college athletics associations or anything. ..infact most colleges have some sort of martial arts program available. some do offer classes for credit. i know indiana university has a martial arts certificate program in the department of kinestheology i think. you can choose between tae kwon do, hapkido, or taiji (tai chi chuan)

they also have a judo team. and offer instruction in many arts from brazilian jujutsu, to meditation, to yoga, to san soo kung fu, aikido and some others i'm sure im missing.

again, the martial arts competitions are separate from the college sports programs most of the time i think.

  2. I know of one here in Japan. The Budo University has a great program. It is something to consider...

  3. There are some colleges that offer bachelor degrees in martial arts, you just have to find them. There is Concordia university out in california that does it for TKD, and i am sure that there are collleges that do it for Karate also
