i'm certainly not centering my entire college search around what colleges allow pets in the dorms, but it would be really great to find a good one! even if the college only allows rodents would be ok though i would prefer cats. so far i've found stephens colleges for girls which from what i've read doesn't sound good at all, reed university which is far from any of my family and looks rather hard to get into, and shimer which from what i've read on the website it doesn't even look like it's accredited and though there's no minimum gpa requirement or minimum test score requirement there are only about 100 undergrads so i'm guessing that they're pretty selective anyway. i've also found SUNY Canton which i'm considering. i think i may want to major in biology since i want to go into zoology. i love animals and find it difficult to imagine 4 to eight years without having one! oh and i'm definitely not one of those super brilliant students who can get in anywhere. not as bad as some i know, but not close to a 4.0 or a 3.5. anyway, any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated!

  1. Well, here are some colleges I know of that allow some kinds of pets in the dorms.  You'll have to look up the information on the actual colleges yourself though to find out if you like them.  Here is a list:

    Massachusetts Institute of Technology

    California Institute of Technology

    Vassar College

    State University of New York

    University of Pennsylvania

  2. Go to UNH and you can work with the animals on the farm.

  3. Most colleges allow you a fish.

    Other than that:

--ECKERD COLLEGE: Has special 'pet dorms' where cats and dogs are allowed, although they have to weigh less than 40 pounds, and again, all vaccinations have to be up to date.

    --UCLA and MIT:

Allows cats. They require that the animals innoculations are all up to date, and that the animal be registered with the campus housing office. Every resident on the floor has to approve the cat before it can stay there to avoid issues with allergies, for example.

--VASSAR: had a pet friendly policy since 1971, although they operate a voting system and require that at least 75% of the residents in a dorm vote in favor of allowing pets before the dorm becomes a 'pet dorm'.

--UPENN: Allows hamsters, birds, and rabbits.

    --CALTEC: Cats are allowed
