I would love to work for an indie label like hopeless records or fueled by ramen. What colleges or majors do you think would help me with this. Sorry for being so vague. I have no idea where to begin. : )

  1. I have been in the music industry now for 12 years.  I've seen a lot of different type jobs and careers.  Here is my advice.

If you would like to work for Hopeless Records or Fueled By Ramen then don't go to college.  If you want to be a music industry lawyer then go to college but otherwise, save your money.

Like most industries, it's who you know.  If you don't know anyone, then start now.  Take the 20 - 40,000$ you are going to invest in college and start a business.  I wouldn't start a record label because its a very difficult business to be in.  (Especially now that CDs are becoming a dead media.) I would start promoting shows or working with bands in some way.  You will learn a lot about record labels right from the bands and potential make more money than you put in.  Try that with your college tuition money!

You need to build experience and knowledge before a record like Fueled By Ramen or Hopeless will hire you.  Every business wants to hire someone who is going to be an asset, not someone they have to teach (invest in).

There are people in all markets who need help.  Reach out to me and I'll get you with someone who you can learn a lot from.  If you can work along side someone with experience, you will learn more than you could with 8 years of college.

Just like college, you need to invest in your education to become someone in the music industry.

  2. Work for them how?  As talent (in which case, an education won't be required)?  In marketing?  In finanical?  In management? In a clerical position? In public relations?  In technical?

You need to narrow it down a bit.  There are lots of different options when all your and say is "I want to working the music industry".

  3. Hey if you succeed in a career like this then maybe you can fix the music industry because im sick and tired of all the bad singers getting released.

Just to Name a few crappy ones....

    Jonas Brothers

    Miley Cyrus

    Drake Bell

    ect..
