  1. I'm going to dawson next year.

I chose it because its big and will be a big change from what I'm used to and new experiences.

also its easily accessible by metro.

if you still have an extra year, you can go visit all the colleges on a tour and open houses.

    for example marionopolis, vanier, etc.

you should go visit those schools at least once and see what you think of them.

    good luck!

and I hope you realize that college/cegep is different than university.

-and also, if you have any qyestions call the school. they are very helpful.

  2. I'm assuming you're looking for English cegeps?

Well yeah, Dawson has a really good reputation, but so does Vanier. But I mean, all the English ones have pretty good reps. So there are those, and Abbott and Marianopolis. It just depends what you're looking for, because different colleges are better for certain areas of study. As for cost, well it's more expensive at Marianopolis because it's private, but Dawson is $200 a semester just for fees, plus anywhere from $500-$1000 on books.

But if you're coming from the States, wouldn't you be going to University here?

  3. Like others have pointed out, if you're American, you'd be applying to university here in Montreal rather than "college". For Canadians, college is basically an interlude piece of education between high school and university. People who do CEGEP enter university U1, and usually spend 3 years in university whereas an American student would be entering U0 and spend four years. If you're graduating from the 12th grade for example, you would be going to university.

There are two main English speaking universities in Montreal: Concordia and McGill, McGill better one, and the best university in Canada. I am also an American student. My tuition is about $16,000 USD a year before a ton of scholarships which basically reduces it to zero save some costs for food and small fees here and there that probably amount to $100 per term. It's still considerably better than most US schools that cost more than $40,000 a year.

  4. Dawson is apparently very good.

I went to Interdec college and really loved it. Choosing a college depends a lot on on what you want to study and where. You don't want to be traveling 4 hours a day and then work and then do your homework.
