Question:

Colleges that allow pets?

I am thinking about getting a hamster, but I will be leaving for college in a year. My parents have said that they are not interested in having a hamster after I'm gone, so I would have to take it with me or make other arrangements. I figured it would be no problem to take a hamster to college, since it lives in a 10-gallon tank- it's not like I want to take a rottweiler or something. But do you know if most colleges allow small animals in the dorms? Also, any ideas on what I could do with it if I can't take it to college with me?

  1. As far as I'm aware, if your living on campus in a dorm the only pets that are allowed are those that can live in fish bowls and create no odor.  Also, in most cases you'll be rooming with someone else so you have to consider your roommates potential allergies or desires in terms of living animal free while they're enjoying their college experience too.

Typically you only get away with a small fish as people really aren't allergic to the kind of fish you don't eat.  At least thats how it was for my younger sister when she was living on campus.
