Collegiate League requests community help – Baseball News
The Atlantic Baseball Confederation Collegiate League (ABCCL) has recently made a public appeal to help with finding and arrange residency for their players.
The ABCCL is an Inter-Collegiate League with the goal to improve the ability of the players. Due to the status of the Confederation, players are not given contracts with money but instead just provide a platform for players to get a chance to perform and
open some potential opportunities. The entire league is works through a charity system.
In order to have a successful start to their 2011 season, the ABCCL is looking for local residents that can house their players voluntarily and provide some space for them. Residents specific to areas like Monmouth and Oceans counties are needed as the league
will start in a few days in Middle Town.
ABCCL’s spokesman Kevin Fountain showed some concern regarding players who did not belong to the New Jersey area.
“These are recommended players by their coaches; all of these have good moral qualities and deserves to get chance in game to enhance their qualities,” Kevin said. “These are good boys who do not smoke or drink.”
Since the league runs off a charity basis, many players get jobs and earn their way through the season doing whatever they can to play. Recently many questions regarding host families, meals and transportation for the players has been discussed.
Using host families for the players is not a new concept for the league. Especially in areas like New Jersey.
“It’s not a tough job to host the players,” Ivette Fernicola said. “I have an easy going environment in home to accommodate the players. They get mixed up with us very soon.”
The core concept for the league is to allow individuals to be able to compete and play baseball in the purest form. In essence only players that are willing to sacrifice and go through some hardship take on the challenge of this baseball league.
Although it is a challenging for the players, the league has produced Major League professionals like Minnesota Twins’ Nicholas Alloway and Casey Gaynor of the Cleveland Indians.
