Collge Help... single moms and others?

Hi I am almost 30 and a single mom of 3. I have been working in the fast food industry for the last 5 years and I am ready to get out. I have always wanted to go to nursing school and become an RN and I am seriously thinking about doing it. I am afraid though, I will not have enough income to support the family while I am going to school. The state of Maine helps with daycare services. I am wondering about financial aid and perhaps student loans... I have my own computer and have a steady 500 dollars automatically every month, is there someone else who has done this that can give me a push in the right direction, or someone give me advice or an opinion on what I should do? Thank you this is something I am serious about, I can't work my butt off no more for such little money...

  1. You have many different options.

You should first try these different sources for single moms:

Then, you can try to get a federal student loan.

Here are the steps you need to take to get financial aid:

    1)  Fill out the FAFSA. This will determine if you are eligible for financial aid. Go here:

    http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/

    2)  Once you are eligible for aid, choose a government-based student loan. The best loan to get is a Federal Perkins Loan. These have low interest rates and the government will help you pay it back as long as you stay enrolled in school. You also don't need a cosigner or good credit for it. For more info go here:

    3) The next best loan to get is a Subsidized Stafford Loan. This has many of the same benefits as a Perkins Loan. Learn more here:

You can also try to get a grant or scholarship, which are both free money sources that you can use to pay for school, and you don't have to pay them back. You can read about grants here:

Here are sites that offer grants:
