Collin McHugh struggles as New York Mets thrashed 6-10 by Pittsburgh Pirates - MLB Update
Starter Collin McHugh surrenders seven runs as he costs the New York Mets a 6-10 rout against Pittsburgh Pirates at Citi Field, New York on September 25, 2012 in the second game of the four match series.
An eventful first inning ended up with the one run lead of the Pirates. Mets in the beginning showed resilience and the power to fight back but as the innings progressed they almost gave up.
After the first inning, they were scoreless through the completion of the sixth.
New York managed to score three runs in the bottom of the seventh but they were not enough to hand them the victory. The fact Pirates fetched seven runs from little more than one inning of McHugh had set the tone of their victory. For the same reason despite
the resistance coming off from the Mets, they remained ahead.
Offensively Mets witnessed their third baseman David Wright slamming a home-run on Tuesday. He added three RBIs while connecting two hits in four at-bats. Second baseman Justin Turner also stepped up and struck a home-run in the game.
David is averse to the idea of celebrating after shining at the plate because he believes they have been below par as a team, especially in the second half of the season. His incredible offensive shows have not helped the Mets in avoiding the humiliation
of standing at the bottom half of the table.
"I'm not comfortable talking about something individual like this when we've had our struggles in the second half, not having done what all of us thought we were capable of doing," Wright said. "But I'll enjoy it at some point. Probably not tonight."
However, Wright has clarified that he will relish the great moments that he enjoyed in the season after some time.
Mets’ offence is still far from satisfactory. Although it added reasonable seven hits on Tuesday, it lacks diversification in terms of the number of players that are showing performances.
Only two or three players are being relied upon for scoring runs in almost every game.
In order to win the last two matches of the series, New York will look to fix issues in their offence. Let’s see whether they can bounce back in the next game or their offensive misery continues.
