Collingwood joins England team to play pre-World Cup warm-ups
The English cricket team arrived in Bangladesh on Sunday for the pre-World Cup 2011 warm-up matches.
Paul Collingwood was not expected to be with the team, but his wife gave birth to a daughter earlier than expected and he was able to travel with the team to Bangladesh. Collingwood will now play a warm-up match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Canada-c748 on 16th February in Fatullah.
The player had suffered from a back spasm in Sydney and had returned home a few days earlier.
Graeme Swann, however, decided to join the team later so he could attend the birth of his child. He was given paternity leave for the warm-ups.
“Graeme Swann’s not here yet. His wife is just about to give birth and he’ll be attending that,” Andrew Strauss, the English captain, told the press on his arrival in Bangladesh. “[Collingwood’s] wife has given birth to a lovely little daughter. He’s here,
and his back is getting a lot better. So he should be fully fit,” an upbeat Strauss added.
Collingwood had been out of the ODI series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 after sustaining injury in the initial ODI. The English team will be hoping that Collingwood recovers fully before the World Cup kicks off as the team’s combined health is far from perfect.
England suffered a lot during the Australian tour as six of their key players had been injured during the tour. Tim Bresnan had suffered a calf injury, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ajmal-Shahzad-c42489 pulled a hamstring, Swann injured his knee, Eoin Morgan broke a finger injury and Chris
Tremlett suffered from strain in his side.
“One or two of them may still not be quite right for the warm-up games – certainly Bresnan and possibly Shahzad as well. We’re monitoring it on a day-by-day basis,” said Strauss.
Pacer Stuart Broad, who is still recovering from an abdominal injury he picked during the Ashes, was keen to take part in the warm-ups.
The English team was hit hard when Morgan, who is one of their key players, injured his finger and had to undergo surgery. The recovery has forced him to stay off the ground and possibly miss the entire World Cup. He has been replaced by Ravi Bopara.
Chris Tremlett, is not part of the final 15-man squad, but has left for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 with his team as a reserve bowler in case the other bowlers do not recover in time. However, he is restricted to participate only in the warm-up ties unless he is officially
announced to play in the World Cup.
