http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-Flower-c44362 to make the right decisions regarding the possibility of recalling out-of-favour batsman Kevin Pietersen, adding that the Zimbabwean-born Flower is not one to shy away from tough
choices.
"Flower is not scared of making strong decisions and he is the right person to do it," Collingwood said in conversation with BBC Sport. "He will know what effect it will have, whether it is detrimental or not.
"Since Flower has come in whatever decision he has made has been for the best interests of the England cricket team," he added.
The beginnings of the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KP-Pietersen-c1806 saga were heralded by his abrupt decision to retire from all forms of international limited-overs cricket earlier this year, after the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) refused to grant his request to retire solely
from ODIs and continue playing T20 cricket.
The Indian Premier League proved a main point of contention between the two parties – while the ECB maintained a hostile attitude towards the tournament, Pietersen (an enthusiastic participant in the league) bemoaned England’s packed international schedule
which he felt intruded in his T20 tournament exploits.
However, the situation erupted full-scale during the extended-overs leg of South Africa’s ongoing tour of England. Despite having scored an impressive century during the team’s second Test against the Proteas, the right-hander called a press conference during
which he threatened to quit Test cricket if the ECB did not take his demands into consideration.
Concerns over the state of the England dressing room also arose after Pietersen claimed he felt isolated, with critics hinting at the 32-year-old’s possibly disruptive influence on the remainder of the team. His case was further cast into shadow after it
was revealed he had sent allegedly derogatory text messages regarding http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 team management to South African players.
Although he issued an apology via YouTube, Pietersen was dropped from the squad for the final Test, and did not feature in the line-up for the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AJ-Strauss-c964,
Flower has reportedly been in talks with Pietersen, as both parties attempt to reach a reconciliation.
"I've had a couple of discussions [with England players] but you don't know until you are in the dressing room what the atmosphere is like," Collingwood explained, maintaining a positive approach. "There is certainly a possibility that if he [Pietersen]
says and does the right things he can drag the situation back."
