Colm Murphy reveals Voler La Vedette unlikely to take part in Irish Champion Hurdle
Colm Murphy, trainer of Voler La Vedette, has hinted that his mare might skip the BHP Insurance Irish Champion Hurdle in order to take part in the Grade 2 John Mulhern Galmoy Hurdle at Gowran Park on Thursday, January 26, 2012.
According to Murphy:
“We have the choice of running at Gowran Park on Thursday or at Leopardstown on Sunday and our decision will be based on the ground. Looking at the current conditions at each track, the race at Gowran Park is very much a strong possibility.”
Voler La Vedette has given some impressive performances on tracks with longer distances, and that is why Murphy wants his mare to take part in Thursday’s race, a three mile long event.
The eight-year-old mare’s last Grade 2 race at Leopardstown was an impressive one, as she managed to upset the race favourite, Mourad, who had a starting price of 4 to 5.
Voler La Vedette went into the event with a starting price of 13 to 8, and might earn the favourite price for the upcoming Hurdle.
Murphy has also revealed that another one of his trained horses, Glam Gerry, will not be taking part in the Irish Champion Hurdle.
He will rather run in the Goffs Thyestes Chase, which will also be held at Gowran Park on Thursday.
Glam Gerry will enter the chase as the favourite to win, as he managed to win the previous one, after entering it with a starting price of 13 to 8.
After the confirmation of Glam Gerry participating in Thursday’s chase, another trainer, Paul Nolan also declared that his horse, Adams Island, will take part in the same event.
According to Nolan:
“Adams Island ran well over hurdles at Leopardstown's Christmas meeting and hopefully he can carry that good form back over fences. As always it will be a very competitive race, but he has good form in Britain and will handle the ground, so we're hopeful.”
The track in Thursday’s chase is soft, whereas it is also expected to be the same in the hurdle, since there is a forecast of rain on Tuesday and Wednesday night.
