Colnago-CSF Inox gets Pro Continental status
This week, Italian cycling team Colnago-CSF Inox was officially confirmed as being awarded Pro Continental status for the 2011 season. On Friday, the team announced its finalized line-up for next year, with Dominico Pozzovivo the
latest of six new riders added to the team. The total of 16 riders will be led by Pozzovivo, Manuel Belletti and Sacha Modolo, who are all confirmed to ride with the team through 2012.
“The high number of summit finishes at the Giro d’Italia look to be tailor-made for a climber like Domenico Pozzovivo, who has matured a lot over the last two seasons,” said sports director Roberto Reverberi. “He was only prevented from showing the result
of all his work at the Giro because of a serious injury.”
Pozzovivo crashed in the first stage of the Italian Grand Tour but went on to ride a strong season, winning the Brixia Tour in July and finishing second behind Dan Martin in the Tre Valli Varesine. Young sprinters Belletti and Modolo also rode well in 2010.
“Belletti has already won a stage of the Giro in Cesenatico, and he and Sacha Modolo are ready to build on the good things they showed last year from Tirreno-Adriatico onwards, notably at Milan-San Remo, where Modolo was 4th in his first season as a professional.”
The trio will be leading the team at their debut race of 2011, the Tour de Langkawi beginning on January 23. For all-rounder Manuele Caddeo and sprinter Andrea Piechele, it will be the first race with a new team before heading to Europe for the Giro della
Provincia di Reggio Calabria-Challenge Calabria on January 29.
“The target will be to do well in the historical Italian races, which we hope to get invited to after this year’s good performances,” said Reverberi.
