Newcastle defender Fabricio Coloccini was disappointed by Sunday’s home draw against Aston Villa, and believes the squad will have to work harder and improve if they are to replicate last season’s impressive run.
The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Argentina-c2841 international admitted that Newcastle did not deserve to win the game and believes the result was a fair reward for their dismal performance.
Newcastle went down in the first half after Villa defender http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ciaran-Clark-c9247 scored through a header in the 22nd minute, giving his side the lead. Newcastle had failed to impose themselves and were all over the pitch. The midfield looked lazy and disorganized,
and Newcastle clearly missed the physical presence and tenacity of the injured Cheick Tiote.
The Magpies failed to take control of the game until some individual brilliance, courtesy of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Hatem-Ben-Arfa-c15884, helped them avoid embarrassment and earn a point. The French midfielder was the only player who stood out in a black and white jersey that afternoon.
Ben Arfa took a shot on his weaker right foot which blazed by Villa goalkeeper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Brad-Guzan-c7954.
The goal was truly magnificent and sent the Toon faithful into frenzy. There were still question marks over Newcastle’s performance, and manager http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alan-c4244 Pardew held back no punches when he talked about his team’s display after the game.
Coloccini also holds the same opinion and conceded that the team will have to improve and work harder this season. Speaking to the club’s official website, the captain said:
"We lost two points because we were at home, and when we are at our stadium then we have to take three points, especially against teams like Aston Villa.”
"Hatem's goal was great - that is what happens when you have good players like that because in one moment he can change the game. We should have maybe gone on to win, but this happens in football.”
"If we want to have as good a season as last year then we have to get much better. We have got some tough games and months ahead of us and it is important that we get back to where we know we can be."
