Newcastle United skipper, Fabricio Coloccini admitted that the Magpies are vying for a top-four finish, after having already qualified for the Europa League next season.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alan-c4244 Pardew’s side took everybody by surprise this season, with their outstanding Premier League run and are currently sitting at the fourth place in the league table, which just four more games to play. They are 3 points ahead of the out-of-form Tottenham
Hotspur and will be level on points with the Gunners, if they beat Wigan Athletic in their next game.
Despite the fact that the Magpies have got a tough run-in to the season, they find themselves in a good position to finish ahead of Chelsea and the Spurs in the table. They have recently enjoyed more success than their London rivals, having won all of their
last six league games.
Even though Newcastle have qualified for the Europa League next season, Coloccini conceded that his side is eager to go a step further, by qualifying for the Champions League.
"Our objective was the Europa League, but now we have a dream, so why not fight for this?" the Argentine told reporters.
However, the Magpies can only confirm their participation in the elite European competition next season, by finishing the league in the top three. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786, who have made it into the Champions League final this year, will automatically qualify for the next
year’s competition if they go on to win the final. In that case, the Blues presence in the tournament will come at the expense of the team which will finish the league in the fourth place.
Nevertheless, the Argentinean footballer refused to get carried away by the prospects of playing in the Champions League, and reiterated his stance that his side will approach the remaining league fixtures, one game at a time.
"We can't think too far ahead, instead just try to play the game and keep going like this, and then when we finish the season we can see how we did.” He added.
The 30-year old attributed the Magpies recent successes in the league to strong team-work and pointed out that their elevation to the top four was not due to individual performances.
He remarked, “We have arrived here in this position as a team. Papiss [Cisse], Demba [Ba], Yohan [Cabaye] - whoever scores, it's good for the team. That's the most important thing: the team. We don't have one Maradona, one [Lionel] Messi. The importance
is placed on the group.”
The Argentine went on to say that his side had played particularly well in the home games, and they were confident ahead of their intriguing league fixture against Wigan on the weekend.
