Newcastle United skipper, Fabricio Coloccini believes that his side can qualify for the Champions League competition next season by winning at least 5 of their 9 remaining league games.
Currently, the Magpies are in the sixth spot in the English league table. Newcastle have 47 points from 29 matches and are only 2 points adrift of fifth placed http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786, but they have played one game more than the Blues.
Recently, Newcastle beat Norwich City 1-0 on Sunday at the Sports Direct Arena after Papiss Cisse's 12th minute strike proved to be enough to keep them in the race for a top four finish. The win put the Magpies back on winning ways after a disappointing
run of 4 matches without a victory. It was also Newcastle’s 10th clean sheet of the season.
The victory also raised the morale and the confidence of the Newcastle dressing room and Coloccini set a target for his side in order to qualify for the Champions League next season.
"Maybe four or five wins. Five wins should do it, but we have to go game by game and try to get points. Now we have West Brom, a tough game, but we have to try to take points.” Coloccini told nufc.co.uk.
"The Norwich game was a good win because maybe we weren't playing well in the last month, or in the last six or seven games, but we have to keep taking points to look forward." He assessed.
Newcastle United were relegated from the English league at the end of the 2008/2009 season for the first time since 1993. However, the club returned to the league a year later after winning the Championship in April, 2010. They finished the 2010/2011 season,
12th on the league table.
However, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alan-c4244 Pardew’s side have been far more impressive this season and have now set their sights on a Champions League berth following the win against Norwich.
"We have to enjoy the three points, and Papiss' goal as well." Coloccini said.
In their previous match, Newcastle were beaten by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wolves-c40952 and Sunderland.
But the task of finishing in the top four won’t be an easy one for the Magpies, as they will play 5 of their 9 remaining matches away from home. Besides, two of their 4 home matches will be against second placed Manchester City and a rejuvenated http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809
side who are currently five points behind Newcastle, but they do have a game in hand.
