Colombia 1 and Colombia 2 march as winners in Continental Beach Volleyball Cup
The CSV Women’s Continental Beach Volleyball Cup completed its run in the Colombian city Aratoca on Saturday, 16th October, 2010. The beaches of Colombia outshined with the hustle and bustle of local and guest teams. Moreover, the passionate fans
added more value to the sparkling event by making noise and chanting happy slogans. The Continental Beach Volleyball Cup featured both men and women’s competitions.
The Continental Cup was originally a qualification round for the London 2012 Olympic Games. The Confederation South-American de Volleyball (CSV) provided a chance to the aspiring players to compete and play at the bigger platform. The host-country Colombia
was also on the board to live their dream of playing in Olympic Games. Colombia 1 and Colombia 2 represented the host-nation and demonstrated an excellent show in front of local devotees. Colombia 1 comprised of Andrea Galindo and Claudia Galindo, the two
sisters who rocked the podium with incredible performance. Likewise, Kelly Medina and Dalgis Villalobos played under the tag of Colombia 2. They also brought honour to country by winning their respective matches.
The final matches of the CSV Continental Beach Volleyball Cup were held on weekend. The home-side stroke with pairs from Paraguay and showed them their abilities of hit and run. Colombia achieved success and kicked out Paraguay.
Colombia 2 vs. Paraguay 1 [2-1 (14-21, 21-11, and 15-8)]
In the first match, the pair of Kelly Medina and Dalgis Villalobos from Colombia played against Yghirda Sanabria and Patricia Cabalero of Paraguay. It was quite an interesting match to watch as the visitors came strong on the Colombian side in beginning. 
They served really well in the first set and shocked the home-team with a delivery of nice shots. Yghirda was on serve and she used full might of her arms to hit the perfect jump-serves. Besides, Patricia unfolded her spike-skills and stormed opponents’ half
with strong line-shots.
They picked up lead over Colombia and maintained a fair gap of points until the end. The Colombian players couldn’t grasp the game plan of Paraguay and suffered the damage. Paraguay posted 21-14 victory over Colombia in first set.
The uproar of local audience enticed the home-side and they realigned their positions in second set. The Paraguayan duo was all pumped up after first set victory. Somehow, the Colombian pair started rising their heads and made a come-back. The local ladies
put an effort and stole points from Paraguay. With a superb exhibition of commanding serves and speedy spikes, Colombia won the second set by sending 21-11.
The Colombians just needed a jump-start and they didn’t stop after that. They followed the same strategy and kept on hitting the ball in gaps. Kelly Median/Dalgis Villalobos spear-headed Paraguay at 15-8 and successfully clinched a berth in the next round
of qualification phase.
Col 1 vs. Para 2 (21-17 and 21-13)
The second match of the day saw a clash between Colombia’s Galindo Sisters and Betania Cabello/Katrin Thiede of Paraguay. The players of both sides seemed determined to get their hands on victory but Colombia got the edge and secured the Olympic qualification
berth in two sets.
There was a good exchange of measured hits in the first set. Colombian Sisters were keen to hit the ball over net and score quick points, while the opposite side also showed good blocking and remained consistent with good defence. Andrea was fond of floating
the ball in air at perfect times and Claudia converted them in fast electrifying spikes. They dominated Paraguay 2 and swiftly hit the finish line at 21-17.
The Paraguayan pair put up good fight in second set but couldn’t stand the heavy strike from Galindo Sisters. They outclassed the struggling Paraguayan side with a score of 21-13 and declared match victory.
The two victorious pairs from Colombia proved their endeavour and confirmed their ambition to play in the next stage of Continental Cup on October 23
and 24 in La Paz, Bolivia.
