Colombia in limelight at Continental Beach Volleyball Cup
The CSV Women’s Continental Beach Volleyball Cup is under way in Colombia from 9-16 October, 2010. Ten women’s duos are contesting their beach volleyball skills on the drifting sand. The host, Colombia is making shocking waves in the tournament by performing
in fantastic way.
The Confederation South-American de Volleyball (CSV) has organised this event, which will serve as the qualification round for the London 2012 Olympic Games. The victorious duos will pave its way to London Olympics. The city of Aratoca in Colombia is hosting
the campaign. On Thursday, 14th October, 2010, two matches were played among the hosts and guest-teams.
In the first match, Dalgis Villalobos and Kelly Medina of Colombia ousted Bethany Hair and Katrin Thiede of Paraguay. The charged-up home-side clean-swept the opponents in two straight sets and secured victory by posting 21-16 and 21-8. Following the winners’
footsteps, the other Colombian pair of Andrea Galindo and Claudia Galindo also sparked on the scene and defeated Yghirda Patrica and Sanabria Knight in two straight sets. The victory graced them, as they successfully built a score of 21-12 and 21-16.
Opening Set
The Colombian sisters (Andrea & Claudia) descended the court with an ambition of victory. They opened the first set with great consistency and proved their endeavour with a display of good game. The commanding jump-serves helped them make a good impression
on their competitors. Andrea was on serve and she poised her feet on the sand to send the ball with full might. On the other hand, the challengers were also active in their court. They penetrated the tricky serves and floaters delivered by Colombia duo.
Yghirda Patrica rose up to hit the ball but Claudia denied her effort and offered a perfect block. The dynamic sisters counter-attacked and hit the ball with rocket-speed. It seemed that the ball just needed the touch of Andrea’s hands and it moved like
a bullet. Snanbria tried to put-up with the killing spikes of Colombian sisters but failed to penetrate the power. Colombian aces always found their way in the gaps and earned points. The Colombian side took the game away from Yghirda/Sanabria after the second
technical timeout. They extended their score to set point and finished the first spell with the help of 25-12.
Closing Set
Yghirda and Sanabria failed to achieve success in first set but they came up with strong attack in the second set. The fired-up duo refused to take pressure from Colombian side and stood firm on their feet. Somehow, Andrea/Claudia gradually picked up pace
and pushed their rivals behind. It took them a little time to settle down in their positions but they regained the commanding position with leading role.
Yghirda and Sanabria tried to hinder their performance but Colombian sisters stayed united and made good progress. The urge of playing in the Olympic Games in London enticed them to put more effort and pave their way to the victory in qualification round.
The players traded sides after the end of first technical timeout and Andrea came on front. Sanabria threw her hands to block the shots but she was not covering the right angle. The deadly shots flabbergasted the pair of Yghirda and Sanabria. Colombia remained
on the winning course and achieved 25-16 victory in second set. Yghirda/Sanabria did a great job in second set but couldn’t match their performance with Andrea/Claudia.
"We are very happy to have won the game 4-0 and guaranteed a spot in the next stage," Andrea Galindo said after the second match. "Now we are going to play the next phase of the South American Beach Volleyball Tournament and we are going to prepare for the
second stage of the Continental Cup. We continue to believe in the Olympic dream."
