As far as the discovery of Colombia goes it was inhabited by native peoples like the muiscas and others untill spanish conquistador Alonso de Ojeda "discovered" it in 1499.

Nevado de Ruiz and Nevado de Tolima. Both are active Volcanoes. The last eruption of Nevado de Ruiz was in 1985.
