I am a US Citizen and my husband is Colombian and has issues with immigration we are thinking of moving to Canada, due to this situation.

What are the best options for us?

Is it worth moving to Canada?

For US citizen is it easy for work in the Legal field. I am pursing becoming an attorney, however I have my MBA now.

He has a C/1D crewman visa.

What is the best area in Canada for work/living?

Thanks soo much for any information that you can give me.

  1. All the official immigration information is on the Canadian Government site here:

    http://www.cic.gc.ca/

Be aware that there is quite a large backlog in applications and it might take some time.

  2. Why didn't you save your self the trouble and marrie a latin american person (someone of latin backround that was already born in this country) Now you have to go through alot of frustration with Canada

  3. Dear Madam,

My name is Gabriel, I work for an immigration firm in Toronto. Let me try and help you out.

If you can wait around two years, you may want to go through the skilled worker route. If you want to get into Canada urgently with your husband, then you should consider getting a work permit or find a job where you can come in using NAFTA.

If you choose the skilled worker route, you have a few things in your favor. I don't want to go into great detail on this because there is a lot of information on the internet and, without having very specific details, the reply would be too long. You can look at http://www.immigroup.com/canadian_immigr... for more information. But let me address a few points: Skilled Worker applications are evaluated against a point system. If you meet the minimum amount of points, you will get the immigrant visa. You have a few things to your advantage: first, you are well-educated and with a few years work experience I would daresay it be very hard to see you not being approved. Secondly, you should not worry about knowing one of Canada's official languages.

The only downside to this is that it can take up to two years to hear back from the Canadian government. There is a way to speed it up, however. If you can qualify for a Provincial Nominee Program (essentially, this is great if you don't want to move to Ontario) the processing time can be shorter. For more information on the many Provincial Nominee Programs, please visit: http://www.immigroup.com/canadian_immigr...

Your husband can be added as a dependent in the applications.

If you do not have time on your side, you or your husband should consider obtaining a work permit. The toughest part is finding a job. Once you have a job, your prospective employer must get authorization to hire a foreign worker OR you can ask to see if the position would qualify for NAFTA.

For information on both, please visit: http://www.immigroup.com/working_in_Cana...

    or for NAFTA:
