Colombian leading the line-up for the Betfair Brigadier Gerard Stakes at Sandown
Sandown will become home for the Group 3 Betfair Brigadier Gerard Stakes over a mile, two furlongs and seven yards on Thursday, 31st May. The race has attracted a line-up of six four-year and older runners who will compete for the £31,191 prize
money.
The most promising entry for the race is Colombian, Azamour’s four-year-old brown/grey colt out of mare, Clodora.
He has raced only once during the new season that too at Sandown. He was successful in posting a win through the seasonal debut.
The four-year-old won the Group 3 Bet365 Gordon Richards Stakes at Sandown over a mile and two furlongs on 28th April. Colombian was paired up with William Buick for the race and the two led the runner up, Poet, by three lengths.
Managing the third position behind the winner was the 6/4 favourite of the race, Twice Over.
This was the first time that Colombian had raced at Sandown and it was a pleasant experience as the Irish colt made an impact at the race course through the very first attempt there.
His last two races of the previous season add to the already high possibility that he will grab the race today.
He was the 4/6 favourite runner up of the Sir Gordon Richards Conditions Stakes on 24th October at Leicester over a mile and four furlongs. He had William Buick onboard and suffered through a one and a half lengths’ disadvantage.
The race was won by Sadeek’s Song while concluding the race third was Al Shemali.
John Gosden’s under charge then wrapped up the previous season by adding a win to the profile. He won the Grand Prix Du Nord (Listed Race) on 5th November at Le Croise-laroche over a mile and two and a half furlong.
The evening’s favourite dominated the race and held firm on the final three lengths of the race while riding with Christophe Soumillon. Finishing the closest to the winner was Simba.
He is only entry among all the other contestants for the race who has raced and won at Sandown and that too just recently in his seasonal debut. Colombian should make the most out of the chance today and toss a pair of wins on the profile.
