Colombian striker Hugo Rodallega to remain with Wigan Athletic despite interest from Sevilla
According to Hugo Rodallega’s agent there has been no offer from Sevilla, or any other side for the 25-year-old Colombian striker currently playing for English Premier League side Wigan Athletic.
He has had an amazing season with Wigan but the club stands the threat of relegation from the Premier League, which will most likely encourage the Colombia international to consider a move away.
Sevilla are among the clubs speculated to be interested in the striker, especially since their former first-choice striker Luis Fabiano recently left and they are now on the verge of losing Freddie Kanoute.
The La Liga side are keen to sign Rodallega in the summer, having been impressed with his improved form. They will also expect to sign the Colombian forward at a much cheaper price, with Wigan facing relegation.
However, Rodallega’s agent has denied the link to Sevilla, claiming it was mere gossip. The player’s spokesperson said while speaking to reporters, “I heard the news from newspapers; I have not talked to anyone.”
Rodallega arrived at the DW Stadium in the January transfer window of 2009 from Necaxa for a fee of £4.5 million. Despite a slow start, he managed to secure a spot in the first team and has been irreplaceable since then.
The Colombian is a big hit with the supporters, having recently broken the record set by Henri Camara for the most goals scored by one player for the club. Rodallega is currently the leading goal scorer for the club with 21 goals.
Rodallega also has a very impressive fitness record, having made an appearance for Wigan in all of the 38 Premier League fixtures. This season he has gone on to make 34 appearances in all competitions and has scored eight goals.
While his goal tally is not too impressive, the Colombian forward is hard working and puts in a good overall performance. The 25-year-old can read the game well and can also be deployed as a winger on either flank.
