West Indians avoided the follow-on on the final day of the rain ravaged second Test against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 at the R.Premadasa stadium in Colombo.
Despite being bowled out in the second session of the final day the tourists ensured that there were no dramas on what has been an absorbing test that promised a result only for constant rain to spoil the show.
Resuming at the overnight score of 165/5 after the entire fourth day’s play was lost due to heavy downpour, the West Indians were eager to get past the 188 run follow-on mark.
Dwayne Bravo and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Carlton-Baugh-c49264 took the tourists past the 188 run mark and were keen on adding more runs quickly to add some excitement to the day. However, it was not to be as Bravo danced down the track and missed a straighter one from spinner Rangana
Herath. Wicket-keeper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Prasanna-Jayawardene-c82537 did the rest behind the stumps to send him to the pavilion. Bravo scored 20 off 36 balls.
Skipper Darren Sammy was snapped by Angelo Mathews off new comer Lakmal for 2 runs only, as the West Indians slumped to 208/7.
Suleman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Benn-c47745 perished with out scoring a run. He was caught at silly mid-off by Tharanga Paranavitana off Herath on the third ball he faced.
The diminutive wicket-keeper batsman Baugh played some adventurous shots as he tried his hardest to get some confidence back in the dressing room after the meek capitulation of the top order.
He reached his half century but was soon flummoxed by a beauty by Herath that went through his defences and rattled the stumps.
His innings of 50 came off 102 balls. He hit 6 fours in his knock. The West Indian batting effort ended when last man Kemar Roach was deceived by a quicker one by Ajnatha Mendis.
The fast bowler scored a mere 3 runs off 8 balls, his demise meant that the tourists were bowled out for 243 runs handing the hosts a lead of 144 runs in the first innings.
For the Sri Lankans Herath claimed 3 scalps while new boy Lakmal and Mendis claimed two wickets apiece. Tillakaratne Dilshan also chipped in with two crucial wickets before the close of play on third day of the match.
The last session is going to be all about some practice for both teams before the start of the third and final test match.
