i have heard much about cleansing the colon, especially if you have a family or personal history with polyps or cancer in the colon. it is also supposed to help with weight loss... does anyone know about the effects and side effects of this process? i'd be particularly interested in health care professionals and doctors answers if your out there....

thanks

  1. I've been wanting to try this but it seems very questionable. Recently a friend at work used it, it seems that it is just a laxative or extra fiber that gets you going. He actually called in sick one day due to dizziness possibly because of dehydration. I'm still doubtful about it. Walgreen's started carrying it recently for $40.

  2. Ive seen a Penn and Teller: BS episode on this once, so no, Im quite sure it isnt true

  3. This is a very popular thing in the last years.  There are many claims for it and it sounds like overall a good idea, but I don't know if I believe it all.

I always feel a diet high in legumes (chilis and other beans), enough fiber, veggies and salad would do they same thing.

  4. Colon cleansing is very unhealthy.  It can dehydrate you.

    Same thing does for 'detoxing'

and the kits they sell at drug stores for $50 that ive seen mostly just contain magnesium citrate as a laxative which you can get for $2 a bottle and sometimes a couple herbs. i bet the execs at the companies who make those things are rolling on the floor in their money laughing at how they are getting people to pay $50 to give themselves the s***s

  6. simple answer false

    your body cleanses itself

if you want to screen for polyp and cancer ..especially if you have strong family history of cancer ... do colonoscopy ..which is a camera tube looking insider your colon

  7. I heard something from a doctor about colon cleansing, he said he has never seen leftover meat or anything the colon cleaning people say is there in someones intestines.  He said it was bunk.
