Colonial Flag to represent trainer Michael Matz in the Grade 1 American Oaks at Betfair Hollywood Park
Trainers are getting their runners prepared for the Grade 1 American Oaks - due to take place at the Betfair Hollywood Park on 14th July, 2012. Restricted only for sophomore fillies, the mega-event will be run for the 11th time
over a distance of 1 ¼ miles.
Trainer Michael Matz has at least one confirmed entry for this race, and that is Colonial Flag, and the decision was made on 8th July, 2012.
The Skara Glen Stables, W.S. Farish, and ENL Stable owned filly will be one of the runners racing for a purse of $350,000.
The daughter of Pleasant Tap, foaled by mare Silk n' Sapphire, will be mounted by rider, Julien R. Leparoux. She will be shipped on 11th July to Hollywood Park, and will be stabled with trainer Gary Mandella, until the race
takes place.
Colonial Flag, competed in the Grade 3 Regret Stakes at Churchill Downs on 16th
June, 2012, where she finished second to, Centre Court, over a distance of 1 1/8 miles.
Her performance in the race was commendable, but now she will have to step it up and bring her best game forward.
The J. Eric Kruljac trained, Best Present Ever, also holds an entry in this prestigious race. So far, the daughter of Unusual Heat, out of mare Centerofattention, has competed in four starts, and landed an immense victory in her most recent start.
The Dennis and Norine Grenier owned runner covered 6 1/2 furlongs briskly in a maiden race at Santa Anita Park on 31st March, 2012, where she defeated, The Grans.
Lady Of Shamrock, trained by John W. Sadler for owners, Hronis Racing LLC, is also creating a buzz based on the victory she secured in the Grade 3 Providencia Stakes at Santa Anita on 7th April, 2012, where she defeated, Byrama,
over 1 1/8 miles.
The magnitude of this race is such that, it has attracted entries from the United Kingdom as well.
The Rae Guest trained, Miss Cato and Mick Channon’s charge Nayarra will also be competing with the hope of securing a solid finish, and gaining some glory along the way.
