Colonial Times???

I'm doing a project about colonial foods,kitchens, and that stuff.

Anyway I started thinking,"Did the colonists eat salad back then?" If you know the answer to the question e-mail me ASAP!!!!!!!!!!!

  1. the clearest answer is that no, they did not eat salad as we know it.  The closest they got to it was wild greens, e.g. dandelion or poke, and those they cooked.  It's possible that some form of slaw was made, probably plain cabbage with a vinegar and sugar dressing, but that's a guess. I do know that by the early 1800's some raw greens, even lettuce, was being planted and used, but it was really Thomas Jefferson who popularized the salad as we know it, and he imported that from France.
