Color Definitions???

Are there really certain definitions for color? If so what are they? Ive always heard things like green means earth and black means evil and things like that, but i never really knew if they were true. this is just a curiosity question.

  1. I know exactly what you're talking about and the color does have some meaning to them and our reaction to specific colors.  

    Here's a list of the basic:

    Red - has strong symbolism as life and vitality.  Red is also the color of passion and lust.

    Pink - represents caring, tenderness, self-worth and love.

    Brown - represents dependability and comfort.

    Orange - represents vitality with endurance.  It is also thought that this color can cause a person to crave for food.

    Yellow - represents active and alertness

    Green - represents nature and the need to change for growth and prospertity

    Blue - represents calmness and peace.

  2. There are dozens of associations of colors, not strict definitions. White, for instance, signifies a bride is a virgin in western society but is the color of mourning in Japan. Red was what prostitutes used to wear so they would stand out. Black is the color of mourning in the west.
