Color line across the center of a black screen

Question

My Panasonic T.V. started yesterday with a 2 inch line across the screen where I could see colors and the rest of the screen was black. A few minutes later it changed to a wobbly picture with a lot of wavy lines across the entire picture. It may work fine after that or go back to the 2 inch line across the screen. What is the problem?
