How does the color of tomatoes change from green to red? Explain.

  1. Due to the development of chromoplasts as they rippen. Chromoplasts synthesize and store pigments such as orange carotene's, yellow xanthophylls and various other red pigments; as such, their color varies depending on what pigment they contain. The main evolutionary role of chromoplasts is to act as an attractant for pollinating animals (e.g. insects) or for seed dispersal via the eating of colored fruits such as tomatoes.

  2. When they are green they are not ripe.

    And when they start to turn red they are getting more ripe,

    and then when they are red they are finally ripe, and you can eat them.

    Its like strawberrys I guess,
