  2. It's very simple actually:

    1.  Paint wall the base color you want, preferably in a eggshell or satin finish.

    2.  Pick a color of the "glaze" to be applied over it.  A "glaze" is a clear latex paint that can be tinted or mixed with paint to the color you want.  Using a "glaze" give some transparancy to the top coat, allowing the base coat to show through in areas.

    3.  After base coat dries, lightly dampen wall with a sponge and clean water.

    4.  Take a 4" brush and dip into "glaze".  Apply to walls in "X" patterns, overlapping each "X".  Work in small 4' x 4' areas and keep a wet edge.

    5.  Take a damp sponge and lightly tamp the areas "glazed" to soften the brush marks, if desired.

Practice the technique on a piece of sheetrock or poster board to get a feel for it and get the look you want before trying it on the walls.
