Colorado Avalanche's Gabriel Landeskog waiting on Lockout to test Captaincy -NHL Update
Being named the captain of the Colorado Avalanche franchise in the National Hockey League (NHL) right after his first season with the major league
was definitely something that had surprised and excited 2011’s second overall draft pick.
Gabriel Landeskog, at the age of 19, became the youngest captain in NHL history, beating Pittsburgh Penguin’s Sidney Crosby by a matter of days.
Seeing his 52 point (22 goals, 30 assists) performance in his opening season, it was enough of proof for the Colorado Avalanche club to see that they were getting another superstar player, capable of leading the club in the future.
They almost made the top eight in the conference to make the playoffs, but missed it by a few points and certainly look to be on track to be focusing
on making the postseason next time around.
Landeskog is definitely frustrated at the moment as he was looking forward to starting off a fresh season as the team captain and hoping to get
Colorado back on top, but now, instead of moving on to another league, the youngster has decided to wait it out.
"There's so many feelings going through everyone's minds. Frustration is one of them. Disappointment is another," Landeskog said, according to Denverpost.com.
"But all you can do is try to stay positive and just prepare the right way and make sure you're ready whenever the puck does drop."
The NHL and Players’ Association is expected to meet on Friday to continue discussing over what a new labour deal should look like and it will without
a doubt, be a breaking moment in whether the future will be positive or negative for the league.
"No one wanted this, especially the players," Landeskog said. "But the owners — it's their call. We're ready to give up some things here and there
and have already expressed that to the owners, but they're not willing to give anything, really, which is really disappointing on our side. A lockout is their way to negotiate, I guess. It's the third time now."
Landeskog is currently under an entry-level deal with Colorado Avalanche for $2.775 million till the 2013-2014 season comes to an end.
