Colorado Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog signs on with Swedish Club -NHL Update
Gabriel Landeskog was one of the last players on the minds of experts that were expected to be joining other clubs in view of the lockout, but it happened all of a sudden as the newly named Colorado Avalanche captain signed on with Djurgarden of the Swedish
hockey league.
Peter Wallen, the youngster’s agent told ESPN.com on Wednesday, October 3, 2012, which certainly had fans in shock as they do not expect him to make a comeback until the lockout is done and over with despite his statements on not wanting to leave at all
earlier.
Landeskog is on a three-year, entry-level contract with the Colorado Avalanche at the moment and is set to make $2.775 million till his deal comes to an end when the 2013-2014 regular season comes to an end.
Fortunately for the Colorado Avalanche and fans of the 19-year-old, Landeskog has reportedly signed to a two-month deal, instead of a full year contract like many others have done, and will be able to make a return to the NHL whenever the lockout comes to
an end.
Gabriel Landeskog is definitely an asset for the Colorado Avalanche, which selected him as the second overall draft pick back in 2011. He beat his counterparts for the top rookie award, the Calder Trophy in his first season, over first overall pick Ryan
Nugent-Hopkins of the Edmonton Oilers and New Jersey Devils Adam Henrique.
The Colorado Avalanche nearly made the players last season as well as they ended off at the number 11 position with 88 points, a huge improvement from their normal position of ending off at the bottom three in previous seasons.
Landeskog is a left winger from Stockholm, Sweden and had a huge first season by making his name be known to the work as he potted 52 points (22 goals, 30 assists) in all 82 games played. The youngster definitely lived up to and beyond expectations of NHL
scouts, who termed him to be the most NHL-ready player prior to being drafted.
He was also named captain of the club after his first season, beating Pittsburgh Penguins Sidney Crosby by days to become the youngest in history.
